• Define and spearhead the multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments, encompassing rails, orchestration, and transfers to facilitate new products, geographic expansion, and substantial growth in payment volume.
• Design and enhance the core Payments platform (including rails integrations, routing, and funds-flow services) to ensure high availability, low latency, and cost-effectiveness at a global scale.
• Oversee the comprehensive design and implementation of large, cross-team initiatives (such as new global rails, decomp/migrations, and resiliency programs), transforming high ambiguity into clear milestones and measurable results.
• Establish and uphold technical standards for financial correctness across Payments, addressing idempotency, reconciliation, failure-mode handling, and auditability for all money-movement pathways.
• Collaborate closely with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory Platform, and Product to create cohesive architectures that balance customer experience, risk management, compliance, and unit economics.
• Provide in-depth technical mentorship to senior and staff engineers across Payments teams, enhancing system design quality, review thoroughness, and long-term maintainability.
• Leverage data and observability signals (such as success rates, latency, costs, and incident patterns) to pinpoint structural platform deficiencies and drive systematic improvements in reliability and efficiency.
• Represent Payments in executive and cross-organizational forums, effectively communicating trade-offs, aligning stakeholders on strategy, and gaining support for high-impact technical initiatives.
• 10+ years of experience in building and operating large-scale distributed systems in a production environment.
• Extensive experience in money-movement architecture (including PSPs, ISO 20022, routing, double-entry, and high-volume payment systems).
• Strong expertise in backend programming (such as Python, Go, Java) and cloud-native architecture.
• Proven ability to design systems that are highly available and high-performing.
• Capability to foresee scaling bottlenecks before they arise and take decisive, proactive actions.
• Experience in leading cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring senior engineers.
• Commitment to technical excellence, sharing best practices, and nurturing a robust engineering culture.
• Proficiency in translating complex technical concepts into clear and actionable solutions.
• Total compensation may encompass equity and bonus eligibility along with benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).
