This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take charge of enhancing the reliability framework of the ModernFi network, focusing on observability, incident response, SLOs, and on-call practices.
• Spearhead the development of an advanced release pipeline featuring merge queues, feature-flag tooling, and domain-specific release gates for our most critical services across various environments.
• Assume responsibility for our cloud platform, including Pulumi modules, AWS account architecture, identity management, networking, and the tools developed by product engineers.
• Propel our security and compliance initiatives: manage Vanta remediation, ensure SOC 1/2 readiness, conduct vulnerability scanning, oversee secrets and key management, and strengthen security across the entire stack.
• Enhance ModernFi's on-call procedures: refine associated tooling, develop comprehensive runbooks, manage staffing rotations, and facilitate postmortem analyses while participating in the infrastructure on-call rotation yourself.
• Collaborate closely with our product engineering teams to identify platform bottlenecks and deliver abstractions that enable them to operate more efficiently and securely.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence through code reviews, design discussions, mentorship, and consistently elevating our shared standards for production-grade solutions.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with a substantial focus on infrastructure, platform, or reliability-oriented roles in a production setting.
• Proficient knowledge of cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS), infrastructure-as-code tools (such as Pulumi, Terraform, or similar), and contemporary CI/CD pipelines.
• A security-centric mindset: you prioritize security in all your developments, even if you lack a formal security background. Familiarity with frameworks like SOC 2, compliance tools like Vanta, and concepts such as secrets management, key rotation, and least-privilege access is advantageous.
• Practical experience with a modern observability stack (including Datadog, Prometheus + Grafana, the Elastic stack, or equivalent) and a proven history of establishing observability and monitoring standards that yield actionable insights for downstream product teams. You’ve also set SLOs, conducted postmortems, and improved on-call experiences based on personal involvement.
• Comfortable managing systems comprehensively, from the infrastructure-as-code that provisions them to the runbooks that facilitate recovery.
• Experience collaborating with small, agile engineering teams, with a demonstrated ability to enhance their speed and reliability rather than create process bottlenecks.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating a network topology to a non-engineer as effectively as explaining a production incident to a CEO.
• High levels of empathy, integrity, and composure under pressure.
• Enthusiastic about the opportunity to be the founding Platform Engineer at a fintech firm, where your contributions directly influence our ability to deliver safe solutions. You are an individual contributor who thrives on creating infrastructure that empowers other engineers.
• Unlimited PTO
• 401(k)
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
• Access to significant equity during a pivotal phase of the company’s growth
