Senior Software Engineer, Operational Systems Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Create scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, along with efficient user-facing applications built with React and Next.js.

• Design adaptable system architectures while making practical trade-offs that prioritize performance, security, and maintainability.

• Take ownership of the complete delivery lifecycle for complex features, covering everything from architectural planning and API design to UI implementation and post-release monitoring.

• Ensure our services maintain high availability and observability; enhance alerting, logging, and incident response throughout the stack.

• Establish and maintain robust engineering standards through code reviews, technical mentorship, and thorough design documentation.

• Collaborate with product teams, designers, and stakeholders to ensure engineering efforts align with business objectives and user requirements.

• Lead technical design reviews and coordinate system decomposition initiatives across different teams.

• Proactively detect risks and deficiencies in operational or architectural resilience and push for sustainable enhancements.

• Work closely with engineering teams to minimize knowledge silos and ensure continuity in essential systems through cross-training and comprehensive documentation.

• Engage in on-call rotations and facilitate post-incident reviews, promoting long-term reliability improvements across systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

• 8–12 years of experience in software engineering, with substantial expertise in backend systems (Node.js, PostgreSQL) and familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (React, TypeScript).

• Demonstrated success in architecting and delivering scalable systems within production environments.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and elevating the technical standards through reviews and design feedback.

• Strong systems thinking capabilities, with the ability to assess trade-offs in scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

• Background in designing for observability and operational excellence (e.g., logs, alerts, dashboards, runbooks).

• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and fostering clarity among product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
