Senior Software Engineer – OpenTelemetry

📋 Description

• Contribute to OpenTelemetry components and various open source projects within the ecosystem.

• Assist in formulating and implementing Grafana Labs’ technical strategy for OpenTelemetry.

• Collaborate with upstream maintainers, contributors, and users in open source communities.

• Act as an OpenTelemetry expert both within Grafana Labs and in external engagements.

• Develop clean, robust, and high-performance software that can be easily maintained and extended by others.

• Work in partnership with Product, Support, GTM, and other engineering teams to align customer needs with technical direction.

• Mentor engineers at various levels through design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and collaborative efforts.

• Create documentation, examples, blog posts, or other technical resources that aid users and internal teams in understanding OpenTelemetry.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in at least one systems or backend programming language.

• Proficiency in Golang, Rust, or Java is highly preferred.

• Experience with C, C++, or similar languages is also valuable.

• Experience with, or a strong desire to engage in, open source communities.

• Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar technologies from a developer’s viewpoint.

• Ability to write software that is reliable, maintainable, and comprehensible to other engineers.

• Comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous technical challenges.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, or systems engineering.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in remote and asynchronous settings.
