This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
β’ Utilize agentic AI coding tools as the primary methodology for platform development, rather than as an experimental approach.
β’ Collaborate within the teamβs agent configuration patterns, custom skills, and CI/CD integration β and assist in enhancing them as you identify areas for improvement.
β’ Ensure the code produced with AI support adheres to our standards: a green CI pipeline, successful evaluations, and clean pre-commit hooks are essential.
β’ Employ effective spec-driven and context-management practices that differentiate productive AI-assisted tasks from non-productive ones, sharing successful strategies with colleagues.
β’ Develop agentic functionalities within the platform β including agent-assisted configuration, AI-driven underwriting decisions, document comprehension for declarations and endorsements, and conversational interfaces for the operations team.
β’ Contribute to the RAG pipelines, retrieval systems, and tool-use patterns that align LLM behavior with regulated insurance content (e.g., rate manuals, underwriting guidelines, state-specific rules).
β’ Implement integration patterns (MCP, function calling, structured outputs) to expose platform capabilities to internal agents and external partners.
β’ Introduce observability, evaluation, and cost tracking to the AI features you manage, ensuring their behavior is measurable, debuggable, and constrained.
β’ Adhere to responsible-AI guidelines that maintain the audibility of agent-influenced decisions and their compliance with insurance regulatory standards.
β’ Design and develop core PAS services in your domain β such as quoting, rating, binding, issuance, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, and reinstatements β making informed design decisions and tradeoffs throughout.
β’ Contribute to the rating engine, product configuration layer, and rules framework that empower business teams to launch new states and products without engineering delays.
β’ Develop data models for policy lifecycle management, exposure control, and regulatory compliance, with input from senior engineers on overarching architecture.
β’ Build within the platformβs event-driven patterns and integration framework for the carrier, vendor, and partner systems the platform interacts with.
β’ Create migration tools: automated data extraction, transformation, validation, and reconciliation pipelines.
β’ Maintain stability in existing vendor platforms while developing replacements β balancing between "keeping the lights on" and "building the future" efficiently.
β’ Collaborate with Product and Insurance Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to refine requirements and translate domain needs into functional software.
β’ Engage in design reviews, offering constructive feedback during code reviews and providing ad-hoc technical support for teammates.
β’ Lead by example β demonstrating strong ownership, accountability, and a commitment to high quality β and assist other engineers in enhancing their skills.
β’ Remain hands-on. This is a build role: you will write production code weekly.
β’ Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience in building and operating backend services in a production environment.
β’ Proven ability to lead at least one project from conception to production, breaking down work into manageable, well-tested releases.
β’ In-depth engineering expertise in Python, Java, or a similar backend language; comfortable working across the stack from data modeling to API development to deployment.
β’ Strong fundamentals in systems design: distributed systems, event-driven architecture, API-first design, and data modeling for transactional workloads.
β’ Practical experience in developing LLM-integrated features β RAG, tool usage, or agent workflows β that run in actual software, not just prototypes.
β’ Familiarity with agentic AI coding tools integrated into your daily development workflow, along with insights on what makes AI-assisted work reliable.
β’ Ability to operate with minimal guidance in your area, and comfortable navigating unfamiliar sections of the codebase with support.
β’ Must be based in the US and available to work during core business hours.

β’ Dental plan options (two)

β’ Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, and Accident plans (voluntary)

β’ Traditional and Roth 401(k) plans (with discretionary employer match)
β’ Supportlinc (employer-paid wellbeing program)
