
Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Serve as the technical lead and make significant contributions to medium and large-scale projects.
• Develop and enhance an internal developer platform with streamlined self-service workflows ("golden paths") to facilitate Clever engineers in building, deploying, and scaling well-architected applications.
• Establish and uphold standards, templates, and automation processes that enable teams to deliver rapidly and securely without compromising reliability, security, or compliance.
• Collaborate with product engineering teams to identify friction points, gather requirements, and iteratively improve platform capabilities as an internal product.
• Provide observability features (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting) and recommended defaults to allow teams to manage services efficiently with minimal effort.
• Implement multi-region functionality, including repeatable environment setup, resilience patterns, and rapid region failover.
• Lead initiatives focused on resilience and apply reliability engineering practices to achieve or surpass 99.98% uptime for critical services.
• Model and promote Clever's engineering culture and practices, which include collaboration, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Refer to our blog post on Defining Clever's Engineering Culture.
• Current and upcoming projects involve migrating services and compute from AWS ECS to AWS EKS and EC2, enhancing our internal developer platform to accommodate this transition, and expanding Clever globally by deploying regionally replicated infrastructure to satisfy customer data-sovereignty needs.
• 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, including backend development.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes is mandatory.
• Experience with Go is beneficial but not essential.
• Familiarity with AWS EKS is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Direct experience with a cloud provider (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) is required.
• Experience with key AWS technologies (ECS, DynamoDB, VPCs, Lambda, RDS, Kinesis) is helpful but not essential.
• Ability to empathize with fellow engineers to comprehend their challenges and enhance their developer experience.
• A strong desire and capability to learn quickly to adapt to the diverse and ever-evolving technologies utilized at Clever.
• Design and product sensibility for constructing solutions as part of an internal infrastructure/platform team.
