This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, develop, and manage high-scale data ingestion and replication systems from Samsara’s primary production data sources, including RDS, DynamoDB, internal APIs, and event-driven architectures, into our data lakehouse.
• Construct and sustain a reliable, scalable, and advanced data platform infrastructure capable of processing petabytes of data across Samsara’s analytics, AI, product, and operational applications.
• Enhance the reliability, observability, scalability, security, and developer experience of Samsara’s Spark and Databricks-driven data processing platform.
• Create internal libraries, APIs, frameworks, and tooling in languages like Go and Python to assist teams across Samsara in safely and efficiently moving, processing, discovering, and accessing data.
• Engage with foundational data lake and lakehouse technologies, including Delta Lake on S3, data catalogs, metadata services, orchestration frameworks, and platform automation.
• Work closely with infrastructure, product engineering, data science, analytics, security, and data engineering teams to grasp platform requirements and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
• Keep abreast of contemporary data platform technologies and contribute to shaping Samsara’s long-term data infrastructure roadmap, encompassing support for AI, privacy, security, global scalability, and customer-facing data products.
• Advocate for, exemplify, and integrate Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we expand globally and open new offices.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in production settings.
• 4+ years of experience in building or maintaining large-scale production data infrastructure, data platforms, distributed systems, or data lake systems.
• Strong expertise in Apache Spark or comparable distributed data processing systems.
• Experience managing production infrastructure in AWS, including services like S3, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS, Kinesis, Lambda, or similar.
• Proven track record in designing, building, and operating reliable systems with a strong emphasis on scalability, observability, security, and operational excellence.
• Proficient in at least one production programming language such as Go, Python, Scala, or Java.
• Capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, analysts, security personnel, and product stakeholders.
