Senior Software Engineer – Data Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and operate our core data-intensive services, including storage solutions (cloud data warehouse, data lake), orchestration tools (Airflow), batch processing systems (Spark, SQL), streaming services (Kafka), query federation and caching, time-series databases, graph databases, and real-time event aggregation stores.

• Create and maintain data integration and process SDKs for utilization by internal services and product teams across Coinbase.

• Develop self-service applications that empower users to manage and troubleshoot their own data pipelines operating on our platforms.

• Build services focused on end-to-end data security and observability, including managing access controls across various storage and access layers, tracking data quality, cataloging datasets along with their lineage, and conducting usage audits.

• Transform functional requests from data analysts, machine learning, and security & compliance into reusable and scalable frameworks; while assembling data microservices into data platforms for essential business sectors and user groups.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience in the field of software engineering.

• You have strong backend development skills in Python, Go, or Java.

• You have general experience with data systems or data pipelines.

• You are knowledgeable about design patterns such as scale-out, caching, key/value, and columnar.

• You utilize SQL, Python, Airflow, and BI expertise to extract operational insights from data.

• You demonstrate the capability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in your daily tasks, continuously adapt as tools develop, and apply human-in-the-loop methodologies to produce business-ready outcomes, driving measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and quality.

• You have crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with on-chain activities such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, utilizing ENS, and engaging with decentralized applications (dApps) or blockchain-based services.
