• Establish and execute well-defined milestones for projects, potentially taking on the role of technical lead for your team’s initiatives.
• Spearhead the design for small to medium-sized components while also contributing to the design of larger components, transitioning from task-level influence to project-level impact.
• Hold substantial responsibility for a component of the data infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, performance, and developer experience.
• Recognize gaps and recommend strategies to address these shortcomings.
• Write clear, well-tested code independently, ensuring it is flexible, reusable, and capable of adapting to changing requirements.
• Proactively support the growth of less-experienced team members by mentoring them, offering guidance, and leading by example.
• Engage in on-call support as needed.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a software engineer with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years of experience with a graduate degree. Alternatively, 8 years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Strong expertise in Python within a production environment.
• Proficient in SQL.
• Experience with distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with various core data technologies, including Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, and Apache Airflow (or comparable technologies).
• Familiarity with modern table formats like Parquet, Hudi, Iceberg, or Delta Lake.
• Experience in a production setting with AWS or another leading cloud platform.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or similar.
• Experience in monitoring and alerting within production systems.
• Ability to break down business challenges into solutions that may involve designs with multiple interacting components.
• Capability to develop correct, maintainable software components.
• Skilled in collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to pinpoint technical blind spots and clarify uncertainties.
• Proficient in delivering clear and concise messages tailored to different audiences; able to communicate effectively and respectfully in both verbal and written forms.
