This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop new managed compute primitives that deliver a first-class experience in Temporal Cloud: refined abstractions, streamlined APIs, and a robust extension framework across compute providers.
• Design self-optimizing autoscaling systems (signals, backstops, debouncing, guardrails) to ensure safe and predictable scaling of worker fleets.
• Establish the Open Source Server ↔ Cloud boundary for compute functionalities, maintaining a cohesive and manageable architecture.
• Architect, develop, and manage services on the critical path of task execution where performance and accuracy are directly visible to customers.
• Provide real-world cloud integrations (e.g., customer-account execution): managing IAM boundaries, secure credential handling, networking constraints, quotas, and failure scenarios.
• Integrate operability as a key feature: setting SLOs, implementing tracing/metrics, conducting load and failure testing, performing incident reviews, and ensuring continuous hardening.
• Oversee end-to-end delivery: API design, rollout strategies, maintaining backwards compatibility, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
• Elevate standards through design documentation, thorough reviews, pragmatic technical leadership, and mentorship.
• Guide cross-team collaboration (Server, SDKs, Security, Control Plane) to achieve cohesive platform enhancements.
• Extensive experience in building distributed systems or multi-tenant platform services (including design, implementation, and production operations).
• Strong foundational knowledge in systems: concurrency, performance, reliability, and failure-mode analysis.
• Proven track record of delivering platform primitives utilized by other engineers/customers (APIs, control planes, data planes).
• Confidence in taking ownership of outcomes: setting SLOs, managing incident responses, and improving on-call quality over time.
• Exceptional written communication skills and clear tradeoff analysis. (Experience with Go is a plus; sound judgment is paramount.)
• Nice to have: Experience in building cloud infrastructure platforms.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with IAM/security boundaries for cross-account execution models.
• Nice to have: Experience developing Kubernetes controllers / CRDs or managing heterogeneous worker fleet operations.
• Unlimited PTO, 12 Holidays + 2 Floating Holidays
• 100% Premiums Coverage for Medical, Dental, and Vision
• AD&D, Long-Term & Short-Term Disability, and Life Insurance (Standard & Supplemental Available)
• Empower 401K Plan
• Additional perks for Learning & Development, Lifestyle Spending, In-Home Office Setup, Professional Memberships, WFH Meals, Internet Stipend, and more!
