Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain high-performance Java microservices utilizing Spring Boot, capable of processing over 250K events per second with p99 latency under 200 ms.

• Create stateful stream-processing pipelines (Kafka Streams / Apache Flink) incorporating idempotent replays, exactly-once semantics, and schema-evolution tools.

• Enhance ClickHouse schemas, partitioning, and materialized views to facilitate multi-region, sub-second queries for Early Warning System (EWS) detectors.

• Integrate OpenTelemetry instrumentation and export extensive metrics/traces/logs to Datadog and Grafana, along with SLI/SLO dashboards.

• Adopt DevSecOps best practices, including Terraform automation, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes orchestration, AWS infrastructure (EKS, MSK, S3), and compliance guardrails (HIPAA, SOX, GDPR).

• Utilize top-tier development productivity practices, including AI-driven tools to enhance delivery speed and code quality.

• Provide mentorship to junior engineers as needed and engage in thorough code/design reviews to raise team standards and promote knowledge sharing.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in Java development with expertise in high-performance and low-latency design patterns.

• Experience in production environments with Kafka Streams, Flink, or similar stream-processing frameworks for constructing real-time data pipelines.

• Proficient in ClickHouse (or columnar database) performance tuning and SQL optimization.

• Demonstrated success in managing AWS-hosted microservices of varying complexity, along with a solid understanding of Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes.

• Strong focus on observability, including metrics, tracing, alerting, and post-incident analysis skills.

• Exceptional communication abilities and a tendency towards collaborative problem-solving in cross-functional team settings.

• Experience transitioning single-region services to multi-region active-active architectures for enhanced availability (Desired).

• Knowledge of data-privacy controls such as PII tokenization and field-level encryption (Desired).

• Previous experience in telecom, real-time analytics, or compliance-sensitive fields (Desired).

• Contributions to open-source Java or streaming projects showcasing community involvement (Desired).
