This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Create and implement features focused on backend development using TypeScript and Node.js; develop and enhance REST APIs with an emphasis on accuracy, consistency, and well-defined service boundaries.
• Engage with SQL (PostgreSQL) for data modeling, migrations, and ensuring data consistency.
• Assume full responsibility for one or more services, overseeing everything from requirements gathering and implementation to production support, while facilitating integration efforts with external partners (vendors, clients) as necessary.
• Manage production behavior: investigate incidents, troubleshoot API failures, analyze data issues, and apply reliability strategies (timeouts, retries, idempotency, graceful degradation).
• Enhance observability (logs, metrics, insights into system behavior) and suggest improvements where reliability, performance, or monitoring may be lacking.
• Engage in technical spikes: analyze ambiguous problems and transform them into actionable technical plans.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering Management to clarify requirements and minimize ambiguity early on; contribute to technical discussions, highlight risks, and articulate trade-offs.
• Review code, mentor mid-level engineers, and contribute to React code when features necessitate UI updates or customer-facing workflows.
• Over 4 years of professional experience in software development.
• Strong backend proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Practical experience in production environments: handling incidents, debugging, API failures, and data issues.
• Experience managing a service from start to finish, including requirements through to production support.
• Clear architectural thinking at the product level: well-structured APIs, correct data boundaries, effective error handling, and the capability to assess trade-offs.
• Understanding of microservice architectures and platform-level interactions.
• In-depth knowledge of HTTP APIs, SQL data modeling, and common failure scenarios.
• Proficient in the daily use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code), with the ability to swiftly and critically review AI-generated code.
• Willingness to gain a thorough understanding of cryptocurrency and stablecoin payments: prior experience in crypto is optional, but extensive on-the-job learning of the domain is essential.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity: ask pertinent questions and structure unclear problems, working independently without excessively detailed technical specifications.
• Demonstrated initiative: proactively identify issues before they are assigned to you, raise risks early, and present a proposed solution alongside the problem.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Company-issued laptop.
• Technology accessories.
• Annual in-person full-team meetup.
