This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Oversee the architectural design and technical execution of scalable, maintainable, reliable, and secure software solutions utilizing open-standard technologies.
• Create and sustain software solutions by employing contemporary Java enterprise development methodologies and industry-standard frameworks.
• Design, develop, test, and uphold clean, efficient, secure source code within Government-managed Git repositories.
• Offer technical leadership and direction to software development teams, advocating best practices in architecture, coding standards, and secure development.
• Engage in and conduct mandatory peer code reviews to guarantee software quality, maintainability, and compliance with established standards.
• Ensure that software adheres to automated quality and security standards through continuous integration, automated testing, and Static Application Security Testing (SAST).
• Analyze and address software vulnerabilities, ensuring all new Blocker, Critical, and High-security findings are resolved before task completion.
• Identify, assess, and implement technical debt remediation initiatives based on Government priorities.
• Maintain and enhance software quality metrics, including: a minimum of 90% automated test coverage for new code, an overall SonarQube code quality rating of "A", and inline documentation for at least 90% of individual methods using tool-compatible formats.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to guarantee compliance with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements.
• Investigate, prototype, and assess emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), low-code/no-code platforms, and AI-assisted software development tools.
• Guide software engineers and encourage the adoption of modern development practices, tools, and technologies.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing software quality, performance, security, and mission effectiveness.
• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in developing Java enterprise applications.
• Extensive experience in: Java enterprise application development, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and Microservices architectures.
• Proficient in software quality and security tools, including: SonarQube, GitLab CI/CD, and Static Application Security and Testing (SAST) tools.
• Experience in developing secure software solutions within a DevSecOps environment.
• Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards.
• Experience in supporting DoD cybersecurity requirements, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) and STIG compliance.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, secure coding practices, and contemporary development methodologies.
• Active Secret Security Clearance.

• Experience in supporting DoD software modernization programs.
• Experience with U.S. Air Force or other DoD mission applications.
• Proven experience integrating artificial intelligence/machine learning capabilities into software solutions.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools to enhance software engineering efficiency.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience mentoring and leading software engineering teams.
• Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies and Scrum practices.
