This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Design and develop the cloud-native Stream Governance platform, which is a multi-tenant, highly available, and scalable service for Kafka and real-time data.
• Take ownership and lead the comprehensive design and implementation of intricate backend services within a cloud-native, microservices-oriented environment.
• Manage projects from the initial requirements and design stages through to implementation, rollout, and continuous operation in a production setting.
• Make architectural and technical decisions that carefully consider reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
• Tackle complex technical challenges with high quality, offering specialized technical guidance to the team while mentoring and supporting other engineers through code and design reviews.
• Assess and improve the efficiency of our platform's technology stack, ensuring we stay aligned with industry trends and adopt cutting-edge solutions.
• Assume responsibility for developing, managing, and maintaining a mission-critical service with a 99.99 SLA across 100+ regions in AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Collaborate across engineering and with other key stakeholders to develop and implement the overall roadmap for delivering an exceptional Data Streaming Platform.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, inclusive collaboration, and high technical standards.
• Over 7 years of industry experience in designing, building, scaling, and operating backend systems in production environments.
• Strong expertise in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Java, Go, C/C++, or Python) along with solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Practical experience with distributed systems, such as event-driven architectures, high-throughput services, or large-scale data pipelines, with a deep understanding of consistency, fault tolerance, and performance tradeoffs.
• Extensive experience managing production services in a public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including containerized workloads (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in cloud-native technologies, including networking and security, and experience participating in an on-call rotation.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring technical teams.
• A history of technical leadership: driving projects, influencing architecture, and coordinating efforts across multiple engineers or teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the capacity to align stakeholders, clearly convey complex ideas, and guide decision-making.
• A BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
