Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Produce high-quality, thoroughly tested code with a strong pace while leading technical discussions that elevate standards across the team.

• Actively identify and mitigate risks, estimate large-scale projects, and advocate for technical investments in conjunction with feature development.

• Analyze and enhance system performance, driving significant improvements in latency, throughput, and resource utilization.

• Make substantial design contributions to key systems, authoring ADRs and facilitating design reviews to achieve consensus prior to commencement of work.

• Promote scalable, secure, and maintainable architecture while applying threat modeling and secure design principles throughout the process.

• Foster team-wide alignment by clarifying objectives, proactively communicating with cross-functional partners, and influencing technical decisions through clear rationale.

• Mentor engineers across the team, guide junior engineers with structured development goals, and participate in interviews and calibration sessions.

• Steer large, ambiguous projects from inception to completion, encompassing delivery planning, production, and maintenance while enhancing team engineering standards and eliminating obstacles.

• Oversee incident response and postmortem analyses for team services, consistently making informed short- vs. long-term trade-offs to uphold platform health.

• Utilize AI tools as a force multiplier to expedite prototyping, scaffold new services, and minimize time spent on boilerplate, allowing greater focus on high-judgment engineering tasks.

• Leverage AI to swiftly explore solution spaces, create proof-of-concepts, and rigorously test designs before committing to implementation.

• Exercise appropriate skepticism towards AI-generated outputs by reviewing, testing, and taking ownership of everything that is released, irrespective of its production method.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience, demonstrating senior-level ownership and successful delivery.

• Strong proficiency in full stack development, ideally comfortable with both frontend and backend systems, with in-depth knowledge in at least one layer.

• Experience in architecting and delivering complex, distributed systems within cloud-native environments (e.g., AWS, serverless, containers).

• Proven ability to lead large, ambiguous projects from design through to production.

• Background in mentoring engineers and enhancing technical standards across the team.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of writing clear RFCs, leading design reviews, and aligning cross-functional partners.

• Understanding of secure SDLC practices, including threat modeling, security assessments, and DevSecOps principles.
