Senior Software Engineer, AI – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement AI-powered features — RAG pipelines and agentic workflows that execute actions across various systems with necessary human oversight.

• Develop the backend infrastructure to ensure reliable operation at scale, accommodating tens of thousands of IoT devices and low-connectivity settings.

• Establish criteria for what constitutes "good" performance in our AI systems — ensuring they meet real accuracy and impact benchmarks, rather than just demo performance.

• Take ownership of significant portions of the system from start to finish, encompassing architecture to production reliability.

• Collaborate closely with product and data science teams to rapidly iterate and ensure solutions are in line with product vision and actual public health requirements.

• Advanced proficiency in Python and backend engineering, with a history of delivering scalable production services.

• Proven experience in production settings with RAG (retrieval, embeddings, vector stores).

• Practical experience in developing agentic systems — multi-step, tool-utilizing AI that performs actions beyond simple conversation.

• Strong understanding of the infrastructure necessary for running AI reliably in production at scale (cloud, AWS/GCP).

• Track record of assessing AI systems for accuracy and real-world impact, and refining them based on results.
