Senior Software Engineer, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert for the design, development, maintenance, and deployment of AI agent systems, which may include LangGraph StateGraph patterns, CrewAI multi-agent orchestration, LlamaIndex data/agent workflows, or similar frameworks.

• Develop, construct, and sustain FastAPI-based agent servers, incorporating async/await endpoints, streaming responses, and health check endpoints.

• Execute thorough testing strategies — unit, integration, edge-case, and performance — for agents and services to guarantee production reliability.

• Establish and enforce guardrails for AI interactions, covering input/output validation, safety checks, prompt hardening, policy enforcement, and robust error handling in accordance with organizational security and compliance standards.

• Create secure tool execution patterns that comply with least-privilege access, allowlists, secrets management, audit logging, and validation controls against prompt injection/data exfiltration.

• Implement agent observability features, including per-step traces, tool-call telemetry, cost/latency budgets, and SLO-based alerting.

• Develop and establish agent evaluation sets, adversarial tests, regression tests, and monitoring systems for safety and quality drift.

• Design and construct RAG/retrieval pipelines utilizing vector databases such as Chroma, Milvus, Weaviate, and Qdrant.

• Consult and collaborate with Subject Matter Experts across Platform Engineering, Data Science, Security, Quality, and Product to ensure that agent systems meet both technical and operational requirements.

• Lead the development, modification, and upkeep of AI system documentation, including architecture decision records (ADRs), runbooks, API specifications, network topology diagrams, data flow diagrams, and best-practice guides, all maintained in a compliant and auditable state.

• Influence functional groups on matters of operability, technical feasibility, engineering design, security posture, maintainability, and project schedule along with documentation requirements.

• Support the planning and implementation of AI agent-based projects and solutions in partnership with cross-functional teams, ensuring success in terms of cost, timeline, and quality for sustained production operations.

• Oversee containerized deployment, start-up, commissioning, and release qualification activities using Docker multi-stage builds, dependency management, and best practices for container health checks.

• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers, addressing and troubleshooting AI agent and service-related issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, along with 7+ years of relevant software development experience is mandatory.

• A minimum of 3 years of hands-on Python development experience is required, demonstrating strong proficiency in Python 3.12+ and modern language features (such as type hints, async/await, etc.).

• At least 3 years of practical experience in Typescript development is required.

• Proven experience with at least one AI agent framework (such as LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, or LlamaIndex) in a production or near-production context is required.

• Experience in building and running containerized applications with Docker, encompassing multi-stage builds and foundational DevOps practices, is necessary.

• Familiarity with complex troubleshooting and system optimization in a regulated or enterprise environment is preferred.

• Experience in an organization with formal change control, compliance, or audit requirements is preferred.
