This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Design, develop, and improve mainframe applications related to claims adjudication, pricing, and payment.
• Create and maintain COBOL programs that facilitate claim intake, edits, pricing, provider payments, and adjustments.
• Develop and support online transactions through CICS and manage high-volume batch processing workflows.
• Implement business rules that align with claims policies, benefits, reimbursement, and payment integrity logic.
• Conduct impact analyses for benefit changes, regulatory updates, and modifications to claim rules.
• Perform abend analysis, root cause analysis (RCA), and defect resolution.
• Collaborate with Operations and Application Support teams to meet Service Level Agreements (SLA), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), and audit requirements.
• Assist in release validation, checkouts, and production cycles for claims systems.
• Optimize DB2 SQL for claims queries, data extracts, and payment calculations.
• Tune batch jobs and job streams to enhance cycle time, adhere to batch windows, and improve CPU efficiency.
• Identify and rectify data integrity issues that impact claim outcomes and provider payments.
• Support the integration of mainframe claims platforms with both downstream and upstream systems, including vendor feeds, pricing engines, and clinical edits.
• Engage in modernization efforts like service enablement, API exposure, and hybrid cloud integrations.
• Mentor junior engineers while promoting consistent engineering standards.
• 5–8+ years of direct experience in mainframe application development.
• Strong expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, JCL, and enterprise batch scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA-7).
• Proven experience in supporting claims adjudication or financial transaction systems.
• Familiarity with mainframe tools such as ISPF, SDSF, Endevor, File-Aid, and Abend-Aid.
• Excellent analytical and debugging skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently on complex enhancements with minimal supervision.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
