Senior Rust Backend Engineer – Distributed Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Designing and taking charge of the core backend architecture using Rust (async-first).

• Establishing service boundaries, determining data ownership, and crafting an evolution strategy.

• Creating scalable APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) for both mobile and web applications.

• Modeling and managing PostgreSQL as a long-term authoritative source.

• Architecting real-time systems, including feeds, messaging, and event-driven workflows.

• Making informed trade-offs regarding consistency, latency, and scalability.

• Collaborating with DevOps while maintaining backend architectural oversight.

• Reviewing essential code paths to prevent unnecessary complexity.

• Contributing to the development of the backend team as the company expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–12+ years of professional experience in backend engineering.

• Demonstrated ownership of backend systems that are in production.

• Significant hands-on experience with Rust (particularly with async systems, not just experiments).

• Profound understanding of PostgreSQL data modeling and optimization.

• Experience in designing APIs and articulating trade-offs effectively.

• Background in building or evolving systems that required scaling.

• Capacity to reason about architecture without resorting to buzzwords.
