Senior Rust Backend Engineer – Distributed Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Designing and taking ownership of the core backend architecture using Rust (focusing on asynchronous development)

• Establishing service boundaries, data ownership, and strategies for evolution

• Creating scalable APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) tailored for mobile and web applications

• Modeling and managing PostgreSQL as a reliable long-term source of truth

• Architecting real-time systems, including feeds, messaging, and event-driven workflows

• Making informed trade-offs regarding consistency, latency, and scalability

• Collaborating with DevOps while maintaining authority over backend architecture

• Reviewing essential code paths to prevent unnecessary complexity

• Contributing to the development of the backend team as the company expands

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–12+ years of professional experience in backend engineering

• Demonstrated ownership of backend systems in a production environment

• Strong, practical experience with Rust (specifically in asynchronous systems)

• In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL data modeling and performance optimization

• Experience in designing APIs and clearly articulating trade-offs involved

• Proven track record in building or evolving systems that required scaling

• Ability to discuss architectural decisions without relying on jargon

• At least 4 years of experience working with Rust in production settings, preferably on scalable web or blockchain-native backends

• Extensive experience in designing modern, scalable backend architectures from the ground up, including authentication, real-time messaging, microservices, APIs, caching, and database design

• Proficiency in Rust frameworks such as Actix, Axum, Tokio, or Rocket

• Familiarity with WebAssembly, gRPC, or GraphQL is an advantage

• A strong passion for decentralization, cryptocurrency, Web3, and creating products that empower users

• Comfortable working independently without product managers, defining project scope, and guiding engineering direction
