Senior R&D Manager – Research & Innovation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Oversee advanced and exploratory R&D initiatives concentrating on next-generation energy transmission technologies.

• Propel innovative thinking beyond conventional product development, pinpointing disruptive ideas and emerging trends.

• Investigate advancements in fields such as HVDC/HVAC transmission, power systems, power electronics, grid digitalization, advanced materials, insulation systems, and grid resilience.

• Convert early-stage research into strategic technology options, platforms, and intellectual property assets.

• Formulate long-term technology and research roadmaps that align with the energy transition, sustainability, and grid modernization requirements.

• Lead and motivate globally dispersed, multicultural R&D teams.

• Cultivate an entrepreneurial research environment that promotes experimentation, learning, and calculated risk-taking.

• Establish robust external partnerships with universities, research institutions, utilities, startups, and industry consortia.

• Act as the company's representative in international research initiatives, innovation ecosystems, and standardization organizations.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

• Extensive experience in R&D or advanced research in energy transmission, power systems, or similar sectors.

• Strong technical authority in areas such as high-voltage systems, power electronics, grid technologies, or electrical infrastructure.

• Demonstrated experience leading exploratory or groundbreaking research projects.

• Capability to function effectively within complex, global, matrixed organizations.

• A curious, forward-thinking mindset with the ability to manage ambiguity and long-term perspectives.

• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder-influencing abilities across diverse cultures.
