This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina, +1 more state.
• Oversees the creation and execution of extensive, strategic public relations initiatives for Youth Villages and its diverse services, programs, and events.
• Engages in strategic media relations within key markets to bolster overall organizational and departmental goals; interacts with the media both proactively and reactively; remains available 24/7 for journalists and crisis scenarios.
• Keeps informed about developments in key markets, ensuring that PR activities are conducted accurately, punctually, within budget constraints, and in alignment with operational objectives.
• Regularly assesses the effectiveness of PR strategies and tactics, providing updates on the status of plans and outcomes of efforts.
• Remains updated on issues impacting the organization, including competitor activities.
• Provides media training and coaches staff, families, and youth for media interviews.
• Develops media and communication materials such as press releases, news advisories, fact sheets, talking points, speaking notes, press kits, etc.
• Plans and executes PR strategies for campaigns, programs, and events, including press conferences, training sessions, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, groundbreakings, and fundraising activities.
• Capable of interviewing families and youth to write stories for various purposes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across different teams and departments to ensure information is integrated and shared.
• Proficient writer with the capability to create various content, including PSAs, speeches, scripts, press releases, and other communication materials; assists with editing and proofreading as needed; adheres to AP Style.
• Collaborates closely with the digital strategy team and other Youth Villages departments and external vendors as required, ensuring all programs and projects are executed successfully, accurately, and in a timely manner.
• Assists with crisis communications as needed alongside the national communications team and state leadership.
• Works in conjunction with the development team to identify opportunities that support fundraising efforts, events, volunteer and mentor recruitment, and initiatives aimed at key stakeholders.
• Tracks Youth Villages' media coverage, including digital platforms, and prepares monthly reports; utilizes media monitoring and database software for tracking and outreach.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, or a related area (required).
• Three to five years of experience in public relations and/or communications (required).
• Demonstrated success in media relations and established relationships with media outlets in North Carolina (required).
• Strong experience in media relations, communications planning, and event promotion (preferred).
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Outstanding written, verbal, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
• Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule.
