This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversees the creation and execution of detailed, strategic public relations initiatives for Youth Villages and its diverse array of services, programs, and events.
• Engages in strategic media relations within key markets to bolster overall organizational and departmental goals; interacts with news media both proactively and reactively; remains available 24/7 for journalists and crisis situations.
• Keeps informed of developments in key markets, ensuring that PR activities are conducted accurately, promptly, within budget constraints, and in alignment with operational objectives.
• Regularly assesses the effectiveness of PR strategies and tactics and provides updates on the status of plans and outcomes of efforts.
• Remains informed about issues impacting the organization, including competitor activities.
• Facilitates media training and prepares staff, families, and youth for interactions with news media.
• Develops media and communications materials such as press releases, news advisories, fact sheets, talking points, speaking notes, and press kits.
• Plans and implements PR strategies for campaigns, programs, and events, including news conferences, training sessions, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, groundbreakings, and fundraising activities.
• Capable of interviewing families and youth and crafting stories for various applications.
• Works effectively in collaboration with various teams and departments to promote information sharing and integration.
• Proficient writer with the ability to create content, including public service announcements (PSAs), speeches, scripts, news releases, and other communications materials; assists with editing and proofreading upon request; adheres to AP Style.
• Collaborates closely with the digital strategy team, as well as other Youth Villages departments and external vendors, to ensure all programs and projects are successful, accurate, and timely.
• Assists with crisis communications as needed in conjunction with the national communications team and state leadership.
• Works alongside the development team to pinpoint opportunities that support fundraising efforts, events, volunteer and mentor recruitment, and initiatives aimed at key stakeholders.
• Tracks Youth Villages' media coverage, including digital, by preparing monthly reports; utilizes media monitoring and database software for tracking and outreach.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field (required).
• Three to five years of experience in public relations and/or communications (required).
• Demonstrated success in media relations and established connections with North Carolina media outlets (required).
• Strong experience in media relations, communications planning, and event promotion (preferred).
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Outstanding written, verbal, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Flexibility in scheduling as needed.
