Senior Product Manager – Content Safety

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Convert intricate needs from multiple stakeholders into user-friendly products and services, working alongside engineers to transform safety into usability, and collaborating with cross-functional teams including data science, investigations, operations, legal, policy, GenAI, education, and enterprise.

• Define and express measurable safety outcomes and impacts for key initiatives, linking work to value while ensuring a clear alignment on user needs and problems to address by crafting user stories and use cases supported by data.

• Manage incoming requests for the team and assist the Team Engineering Lead (TEL) in prioritizing the backlog and development sprints.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the existing user protection mechanisms across Canva to identify current issues and escalation points, fostering innovation in safety capabilities to stay ahead of emerging threats and industry regulations.

• Strategize adoption timelines with internal team buy-in, balancing immediate needs for impact with long-term sustainability and efficiency, ensuring timely delivery by proactively identifying potential risks and removing obstacles for teams.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership to refine and implement the vision and strategy for content safety, demonstrating how the future state will create impact through a prioritized roadmap encompassing review tooling, policy enforcement (including strikes, suspensions, appeals), efficiency (e.g., review hotkeys, unit economics), UX (e.g., refusals and redirects), and wellness (e.g., blurring).

• Communicate the product vision, roadmap progress, and upcoming changes proactively to stakeholders at all organizational levels, showcasing team achievements to enhance visibility and understanding of our risks and impact.

• Serve as an escalation point while refining escalation channels and processes for all Trust & Safety incidents, appeals, and investigations, including user and government reports.

• Evaluate Canva product safety risks, collaborating closely with product teams during the creation and implementation of new products, aiming to ensure that Trust & Safety mitigations and procedures are aligned with industry best practices to protect our community.


⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in relevant product management across areas such as policy, machine learning (classifiers, diffusers, or language models), operations tooling, education, or compliance.

• A profound understanding of how safeguarding customer safety is a crucial trust enabler for business impact.

• A history of successfully delivering large-scale projects in dynamic organizations, proactively unblocking others by anticipating issues and clarifying problems and scope.

• Cross-functional fluency, capable of communicating effectively with engineering, data, operations, and business teams to achieve impactful results.

• Exceptional stakeholder management and communication abilities, with the skill to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.

• Capacity to balance a long-term vision with the timely delivery of outcomes that bring us closer to that vision, particularly in a high-growth environment.

• A data-driven mindset, yet comfortable moving forward even in the absence of complete information, balancing first-principles reasoning with the available data.

• An innovator willing to engage with complex technical and organizational challenges, making decisions both with and without data.

• A passion for ensuring safety, employing a rigorous and defensible approach that is clear enough to educate and assist others in understanding.
