This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Rhode Island.
• Calibration of dose meters, including dosimetric inter-comparisons for quality assurance and radiation equipment, specifically accelerator monitor unit calibration.
• Acquisition of beam data for treatment planning purposes.
• Preparation of data for systems used in treatment planning.
• Development and enhancement of dose measurement systems, protocols, and software for dosimetry, which includes spreadsheets and databases.
• Ensures adherence to Federal, State, and organizational regulations regarding radiation safety.
• Engages in the development of organizational Performance Improvement initiatives, alongside policies and procedures to meet necessary regulatory standards.
• Aids in the acceptance testing and commissioning of new machines, as well as the re-commissioning following significant maintenance.
• Conducts individual treatment planning, dosimetry calculations, and reviews of the treatment planning from a physics perspective.
• Offers physics consultation to all personnel in radiation oncology and radiation oncologists concerning patient care and treatment aspects.
• Ensures routine verification of the department's treatment planning system.
• Collaborates with the information services department to manage software associated with the department's planning system.
• Assists in planning and conducting shielding calculations for new radiation facilities and programs.
• Interprets and prepares documentation summarizing regulatory changes for incorporation into departmental operations.
• Conducts dosimetry checks following changes in sources.
• Aids in selecting and acquiring sources for permanent implant techniques.
• Collaborates with the department director and Physics director in clinical education, training, and competency evaluations for medical physics, dosimetry, and therapy staff.
• Must be located in or willing to relocate to Wakefield, RI, or the surrounding area.
• A Master's degree or PhD (preferred) in Medical Physics or a closely related field is required.
• At least 3+ years of clinical experience in addition to a CAMPEP-accredited residency is necessary.
• Candidates who have successfully passed the Part-I and potentially the Part-II ABR Exams are preferred.
• Experience with High Dose Rate (HDR) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) programs is preferred.
• Desirable experience in computer system administration relating to patient record and verification database applications.
• Certification in Radiation Oncology Physics through the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or an equivalent certifying body is required.
• Candidates who are not currently certified must be eligible for board certification and achieve this status within three years of employment.
• Required to apply for and maintain relevant State licensing and/or registration as necessary to work as a medical physicist at the clinical site in a timely manner.
