This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, offering actionable feedback and supporting career advancement.
• Establish the documentation vision, encompassing tool selection, style guides, and information architecture.
• Serve as the main liaison between Engineering, Product Management, and Support to ensure documentation is woven into the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Prioritize projects and manage the team’s capacity to meet tight release deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
• Create and execute a documentation strategy within a cross-functional organization that fosters usability and innovation in documentation.
• Review documentation for consistency across processes through the application of established standards and style guides.
• Maintain and enhance our Docs-as-Code workflow (Git, Markdown, CI/CD pipelines).
• Transform complex technical information into clear and concise documentation for target audiences such as Engineers, Product Managers, Architects, and Senior Leadership.
• Develop technical documentation for APIs, SDKs, and integrations.
• Translate intricate ideas into easily understandable logical concepts using architectural diagrams and accompanying descriptions.
• Write in a formal technical writing style (for instance, active voice, implied 'you', consistent tenses, etc.).
• Conduct comprehensive interviews with subject matter experts to fully grasp the architecture or products.
• Collaborate daily with engineers, product managers, and architects to develop, publish, and maintain high-quality, customer-focused documentation.
• Utilize metrics and other data forms to understand content utility variation, identify areas needing review, and drive planning and prioritization.
• Develop content that enhances searchability for SEO and LLM optimization.
• Maintain and continuously update content management systems for documentation.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent military experience.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in writing technical documentation for software solutions.
• At least 4 years of experience in people management.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience with Markdown and Git.
• Over 5 years of experience working with documentation authoring tools, such as Hugo, GitBook, and Confluence.
• Experience in writing technical documentation for data security software.
• Proficient in transforming highly technical content into clear, customer-focused materials.
• Capability to collaborate with developers to convert their content into easily understandable documentation.
• Experience in writing within an Agile software development environment.
• Strong understanding of data management technologies and processes.
• At least 3 years of experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in software development.
• At least 1 year of experience in the financial services industry.
• Over 3 years of experience working in an Agile environment.
