This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Take ownership, support, and enhance the data warehousing, event ingestion, and Airflow orchestration production platforms from initial concept through implementation and ongoing support.
• Act as a subject-matter expert and mentor for analysts, business analysts, and engineers utilizing the platforms.
• Manage technology decisions, strategic backlog, and priorities for the analytics platform surface.
• Provide continuous production support and engage in an on-call rotation.
• Develop a cost-attribution pipeline that interprets Trino query logs and allocates AWS costs to reports, queries, users, and dbt models.
• Create a forecast-driven autoscaling control loop for the shared Trino cluster and dbt worker pool.
• Establish and foster the use of a production Gen AI system utilizing natural-language-to-SQL or RAG over the data catalog, incorporating LLM tools, grounding, and cost guardrails.
• Deliver roughly 70% of hands-on engineering work and 30% of technical coordination with Finance, report owners, and cross-functional teams.
• Lead cross-team migrations or deprecations while modernizing ingestion pipelines.
• Collaborate with large teams and participate in weekly Finance/BizOps and Analytics meetings.
• Produce PR-level deliverables and contribute to Claude Code skills.
• Over 10 years of engineering experience managing and supporting mission-critical applications and platforms in production.
• Extensive experience with Kafka and streaming technologies and platforms.
• Proficient in enterprise data technologies and platforms.
• Experience handling extremely large traffic and data volumes.
• Proficient in JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go.
• Experience with open-source RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
• Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and a wide array of AWS tools and services.
• Experience in forecast- or workload-driven infrastructure scaling on a shared platform.
• Production Gen AI experience, including RAG design, vector/graph stores, and LLM tool usage.
• Long-term ML/AI experience, such as ranking, recommendation, or comparable production ML.
• Experience delivering a product from 0-to-1 with measurable early revenue or adoption.
• Lead-engineer experience in modernizing an ingestion pipeline from a legacy provider to a cloud-native stack.
• Experience directing a cross-team migration or deprecation at the senior-executive level.
• Ability to learn quickly and collaborate with large teams on large-scale systems.
• Cross-functional experience with Finance/BizOps and Analytics teams.
• Daily use of Claude Code, skill authoring, and PR-level deliverables (mandatory requirement).
• Bachelor's Degree.
• Minimum of 6 years of software engineering experience, not including internships.
• At least 1 year of experience in cloud computing with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Preferred: Master’s Degree.
• Preferred: 9+ years in JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
• Preferred: 4+ years with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
• Preferred: 4+ years with open-source frameworks.
• Preferred: 1+ years of people management experience.
• Preferred: 2+ years of experience with Agile practices.
