This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the strategy, design, and roadmap for Marqeta's benefits programs both in the US and globally.
• Assess program performance and market trends; suggest modifications to plan designs, introduce new offerings, and implement cost-management strategies.
• Define and monitor benefits metrics while collaborating with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling.
• Act as a senior subject-matter expert and trusted advisor to People leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Oversee and develop the benefits function, including mentoring team members and managing broker and vendor relationships.
• Establish partnerships with People Partners, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and Talent teams.
• Manage vendor strategy, selection, RFP processes, negotiations, contracts, renewals, and performance against SLAs.
• Supervise vendor file feeds/integrations, benefits invoices, audits, and reconciliations.
• Manage benefits records and transactions in Workday, ensuring enrollment reconciliation with payroll deductions.
• Lead enrollment audits, implement systems and processes, conduct communication campaigns, and integrate benefits for mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
• Own the employee benefits experience, addressing complex escalations, Workday Help tickets, benefits inquiries, communications, and educational initiatives.
• Drive the annual Open Enrollment process, including strategy, planning, communications, system testing, and reconciliation.
• Plan and implement wellness events and wellbeing initiatives.
• Ensure compliance and governance of benefits, including regulatory filings, plan documents, nondiscrimination testing, and state reporting.
• Stay informed on benefits legislation and advise leadership on necessary adjustments.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in US benefits, encompassing program strategy and design.
• 3+ years of experience leading a benefits function, overseeing benefits staff, and/or directing work through brokers and vendors.
• Proven experience managing complete benefits renewal cycles, including strategy development, broker/vendor negotiations, open enrollment execution, and post-enrollment reconciliation.
• Extensive knowledge of health and welfare programs and benefits compliance, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, and 5500s.
• Experience within scaling technology companies and in fast-paced, ambiguous growth environments.
• Background in supporting benefits integration for mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
• Some experience with international/global benefits administration.
• Familiarity with Workday Benefits.
• Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets or equivalent Excel skills, with a preference for working predominantly in Google Sheets.
• Exceptional executive communication, influence, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Capability to balance strategic program ownership with hands-on execution.
• Detail-oriented with strong accuracy, time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
