This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the strategy, design, and roadmap for Marqeta's benefits programs both in the US and globally.
• Assess program performance and market trends to propose plan designs, offerings, and cost-management approaches.
• Establish and monitor benefits metrics, utilizing data to guide decision-making.
• Collaborate with the Finance team on budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling efforts.
• Act as a senior subject-matter expert and advisor for People leadership and stakeholders.
• Lead and enhance the benefits function, including mentoring staff and overseeing broker/vendor-driven projects.
• Cultivate partnerships with People Partners, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and Talent teams.
• Represent benefits in leadership discussions and convert compliance topics into actionable guidance.
• Manage vendor strategy, selection processes, RFPs, negotiations, contracts, and renewals.
• Supervise broker and vendor performance in relation to SLAs.
• Oversee vendor file feeds, integrations, troubleshooting, invoicing, auditing, and reconciliation processes.
• Manage benefits records and transactions within Workday.
• Reconcile enrollments with payroll deductions and address any discrepancies.
• Spearhead operational projects, audits, implementations, communication campaigns, and the creation of scalable process documentation.
• Direct benefits integration during mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
• Own the employee benefits experience and handle complex escalations.
• Supervise Workday Help tickets and benefits inquiries.
• Develop and deliver benefits communications and educational materials.
• Manage the annual Open Enrollment process, including planning, communication, testing, and reconciliation.
• Organize and implement wellness events and well-being initiatives.
• Ensure compliance and governance for benefit plans, encompassing ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, 5500s, plan documents, SPDs, SMMs, SBCs, and state reporting.
• Stay informed on benefits legislation and advise leadership on its impact on the organization.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive benefits experience in the US, focusing on program strategy and design.
• At least 3 years of experience leading a benefits function, managing benefits staff, or directing work through brokers and vendors.
• Comprehensive ownership of the benefits renewal cycle, including renewal strategies, broker/vendor negotiations, open enrollment, and reconciliations.
• Extensive knowledge of health and welfare programs and benefits compliance, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, and 5500s.
• Experience in scaling technology companies and navigating dynamic, ambiguous environments.
• Involvement in benefits integration during mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures.
• Some familiarity with international/global benefits administration.
• Proficiency with Workday Benefits.
• Advanced skills in Google Sheets, or equivalent Excel experience, with a preference for working primarily in Google Sheets.
• Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to influence and manage stakeholders effectively.
• A strategic yet hands-on mindset, with a keen attention to detail, accuracy, time management, prioritization, initiative, judgment, and results orientation.
