Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Applied AI & Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Identify high-value opportunities derived from product, customer, and operational data.

• Rapidly assess ambiguous concepts to determine their feasibility, utility, and shipping potential.

• Develop practical 80/20 solutions that quickly generate leverage, refining them based on traction.

• Manage end-to-end execution, encompassing data exploration, modeling, experimentation, backend integration, and productization.

• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and leadership teams to transform rough ideas into shipped capabilities.

• Utilize machine learning, analytics, heuristics, and automation in a pragmatic manner, avoiding unnecessary complexities.

• Establish success metrics, measure outcomes, and enhance solutions based on real-world application.

• Contribute to the evolution of how GitKraken employs AI and data to enhance developer workflows, team velocity, and product experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in machine learning, applied AI, or a similarly hands-on product data role at a senior level.

• Proven history of delivering data or ML-driven capabilities in real products or operational workflows.

• Comfort with transitioning from ambiguous problem statements to practical execution with minimal structure.

• Ability to work across the entire stack, not limited to notebooks.

• Strong product judgment with a preference for simple solutions that yield measurable value.

• Experience in determining the most effective approach to problem-solving, whether through ML, rules, analytics, automation, or workflow design.

• Capacity to balance speed and thoroughness, including knowing when "good enough to learn" is appropriate.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly conveying trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ownership mentality: proactive in pursuing ideas to impact, without waiting for perfect specifications.
