Senior Indirect Tax Compliance Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take charge of comprehensive global indirect tax compliance (US SUT, Canadian GST/HST, and EMEA/APAC VAT/GST), which includes nexus analysis, return preparation, filing, payment, and ongoing threshold monitoring, ensuring timely and accurate filings while minimizing indirect tax compliance risks.

• Evaluate taxability rules for software as a service (SaaS) and maintain up-to-date taxability guidance for transactions across applicable jurisdictions, enhancing tax determination accuracy as products and transactions evolve.

• Supervise exemption certificate processes and tax engine setup, ensuring rate accuracy and transaction tax logic within Avalara, to enhance transaction accuracy and minimize manual rework.

• Execute monthly accruals and quarterly reconciliations for indirect tax accounts while maintaining supporting documentation for control readiness, contributing to accurate reporting and improved audit and SOX preparedness.

• Work together with Sales, Billing, Legal, and Accounting on indirect tax issues related to customer structures, product launches, and new business initiatives, facilitating compliant go-to-market strategies and smoother launches.

• Lead process enhancements focused on automation, operational efficiency, and scalable controls, including AI-driven improvements to compliance workflows, strengthening the filing and reconciliation processes over time.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing indirect tax compliance with direct responsibility for US, Canada, and international (EMEA and APAC) indirect tax operations, encompassing nexus analysis, return filing, exemption certificate management, and voluntary disclosure agreement support.

• Capability to work independently within a lean team while managing multiple compliance cycles, deadlines, and concurrent projects.

• Familiarity with finance and tax systems such as Avalara, NetSuite, Zuora, spreadsheets, and collaboration tools utilized in distributed teams.

• Proficiency in reconciliation, documentation, and control-oriented tasks, including support for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) processes.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills to engage effectively with cross-functional stakeholders on technical tax issues.

• Relevant educational background or transferable experience in tax, accounting, or finance; professional certifications or advanced tax education can be advantageous but are not mandatory for consideration.
