
Senior Indirect Tax

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +6 more states.
β’ Prepare workpapers and tax returns for filing, and ensure the remittance of all U.S. indirect tax returns, including sales & use, B&O, excise, gross receipts, personal property, and local taxes.
β’ Oversee the preparation and maintenance of exemption certificates.
β’ Monitor and manage indirect tax filing calendars and registrations across various jurisdictions.
β’ Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries and reconciliations for indirect tax GL accounts.
β’ Assist in the ongoing maintenance and improvements of indirect tax automation tools (Avalara).
β’ Calculate and document Zillow's ASC 450 tax contingency positions and reserves.
β’ Provide support for data collection and research activities.
β’ Handle tax correspondence, including research and responses to tax notices.
β’ Maintain and improve internal tax controls and policy documentation.
β’ Collaborate with internal departments to collect and validate data necessary for indirect tax compliance.
β’ 3-5 years of experience in indirect tax, either in public accounting or a corporate in-house role.
β’ Strong knowledge of U.S. sales/use tax, B&O, and other transaction-based taxes.
β’ High proficiency in using the Avalara tax engine.
β’ Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are required.
β’ Ability to research multi-jurisdictional tax issues, interpret guidance, and convert findings into actionable recommendations.
β’ Excellent time-management skills to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
β’ Capable of navigating ambiguous and high-stakes tax issues independently, knowing when to proceed alone and when to escalate matters.
β’ Experience with Workday Financial is a plus.
β’ Familiarity with RIA Checkpoint and BNA research platforms is a plus.
β’ CPA or LLM qualification is a plus.
