Senior Game Engineer – Unreal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Finland, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and take charge of game features in Unreal Engine utilizing C++ and Blueprint, from initial implementation through refinement and enhancement.

• Collaborate closely with design teams to convert game concepts into technically robust, engaging player experiences.

• Make architectural choices that enhance player experience, optimize performance, ensure maintainability, and support future live-service requirements.

• Influence technical strategies, engineering standards, and patterns throughout the Unreal codebase.

• Recognize technical debt and make informed decisions about what to prioritize now versus later.

• Engage with engineers through technical discussions, code reviews, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

• Assist the team in effectively utilizing Unreal Engine and its native systems.

• Assess and enhance performance, stability, and scalability for mobile platforms.

• Work collaboratively across game clients, backend services, gameplay prototyping and execution, technical art, and external engineering partners.

• Highlight technical risks, constructively challenge assumptions, and aid in resolving trade-offs.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in game development with strong hands-on proficiency in Unreal Engine, C++, and Blueprint.

• Proven experience in building and deploying gameplay features and game systems in one or more Unreal titles.

• Strong architectural and systems thinking with a focus on player-centric design.

• In-depth knowledge of Unreal-specific engineering choices, including when to utilize, extend, or customize the engine.

• Exceptional judgment regarding technical trade-offs and the scope of solutions.

• Ability to grasp the broader technical landscape of a game.

• Confident and collaborative communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical decisions clearly.

• Capability to take ownership of ambiguously defined challenges and independently drive them forward.

• Adaptability to evolving game dynamics and responsiveness to player feedback.

• Proactive and open use of AI-assisted development tools as part of the daily workflow.

• Experience in mentoring, pairing with, or informally guiding fellow engineers.

• Familiarity with procedural or generative content systems within Unreal.

• Experience launching or scaling a live-service game.

• Knowledge of mobile game development.

• Expertise in mobile performance optimization, including profiling, memory management, rendering, and device limitations.

• Background in a small studio, startup, strike team, or other environments promoting high ownership in engineering roles.
