Senior Staff Gameplay Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and take ownership of fundamental gameplay systems, emphasizing responsiveness and player experience.

• Work closely with game designers to prototype, iterate on, and enhance gameplay mechanics.

• Offer technical leadership and insights regarding gameplay architecture and industry best practices.

• Ensure that gameplay systems are scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.

• Review code and contribute to the establishment of engineering standards and workflows.

• Recognize and address complex challenges related to gameplay, performance, or technical issues.

• Provide support and mentorship to junior or mid-level engineers as the team expands.

• Assume responsibility for controls, ability systems, match flow, and the architecture of core gameplay.

• Collaborate with designers, artists, and engineers to convert creative vision into robust, scalable, and high-performance gameplay systems.

• Engage in technical decision-making, system architecture development, and the establishment of engineering standards and best practices.

• Actively identify risks and opportunities to enhance gameplay quality and development efficiency.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional experience as a Gameplay Engineer or in a similar capacity within game development.

• Strong expertise in C++ and Blueprints, with extensive experience in Unreal Engine development.

• In-depth knowledge of gameplay systems, player input, state management, and overall game feel.

• Proven track record in architecting and maintaining intricate gameplay systems.

• Proficient in writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across various disciplines.

• High proficiency in English communication, including the ability to discuss technical and design topics clearly.

• Experience with Unreal Gameplay Framework, Unreal physics, animation, UI systems, and Git.

• Preferred: experience in developing competitive or PvP-based games.

• Preferred: familiarity with networking, replication, or multiplayer systems.

• Preferred: strong skills in debugging, profiling, and performance optimization.

• Preferred: experience in leading or mentoring fellow engineers.

• An interest in expressive, skill-based, and responsive gameplay systems.

• Japanese communication skills are a plus.
