Senior Full Stack Digital Services Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.

📋 Description

• Oversee full stack development for the Digital Services team, conducting comprehensive systems analysis and implementing high-performance software solutions that are both efficient and cost-effective, thereby supporting Wellmark’s business and technology applications.

• Spearhead system development and mentor the team in the design, development, code testing, and debugging processes necessary to ensure successful completion or resolution of issues, with an emphasis on utilizing emerging technologies.

• Coordinate cross-functional end-to-end execution across various platforms, meticulously adhering to Wellmark's SDLC standards and the structured SAFe methodology to make advancements accessible and beneficial to all Information Product teams, promoting a unified and elevated approach to development and delivery.

• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, product managers, architects, and DevOps engineers to create responsive, interactive, and high-performing applications by delivering high-quality code that guarantees a seamless user experience across multiple devices.

• Create and enhance web pages to maximize speed, accessibility, and scalability.

• Design and optimize backend architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, following best practices and Wellmark engineering standards.

• Ensure that applications are mobile responsive.

• Analyze defects to identify root causes and guide others in spotting potential improvement opportunities.

• Provide production support for applications, including root cause analysis and break-fix resolution.

• Utilize data and cost metrics (AWS, infrastructure, labor, etc.) to influence timely decisions, build consensus, and take actions to successfully achieve project or production support objectives and realize benefits.

• Identify known issues and potential impacts on project or production outcomes if unresolved, escalating as necessary.

• Contribute to a collaborative agile environment, participating in PI Planning, iteration planning, estimation, demos, and retrospectives.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with 72 months of experience in the job offered or a related position in software development.

• 48 months of experience in the health insurance industry.

• 48 months of experience designing, building, and maintaining high-performing, user-friendly web application front ends, utilizing the following technologies: Angular, HTML, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, RxJS (Reactive Extensions), and Bootstrap.

• 48 months of experience designing, building, and maintaining back-end services using the following technologies: Node.js, Express.js, Swagger/OpenAPI (API Documentation), and JWT (Authentication).

• 48 months of experience employing SAFe and Agile methodologies.

• Proficient in understanding, designing, and implementing monolith, microservice, and event-driven architecture.

• Experience with database technologies such as MongoDB, DynamoDB, and MySQL.

• Background in building and maintaining cloud-hosted applications, utilizing the following cloud-based technologies: Lambda, SNS, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Cloudfront, API Gateway, IAM (Security/Access Management), SQS, and CDK.

• Familiarity with containerizing and deploying applications using Docker.

• Experience in developing accessible web applications.

• Proficient in building, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps.

• Knowledge of test-driven development principles, utilizing tools such as Jest, Jasmine, Mocha, and Angular Testing Library.

• Experience with paired programming and XP practices.

• Familiarity with UX design tools.

• Skilled in using data to support information gathering, conducting necessary research for root cause analysis, defining problems, formulating recommendations for solution implementation, verification, and ongoing optimization.
