This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of the creation of environments from initial concepts and blockouts to final implementation and refinement within the engine.
• Design expansive environments, landscapes, and iconic locations with a focus on composition, clarity, and ambiance.
• Develop high-quality environment assets, which include modular kits, standout pieces, and supporting props.
• Create and implement intricate materials and shader configurations to enhance environmental fidelity and variety.
• Transform concept art into fully developed, efficient in-game environments while preserving the artistic vision.
• Oversee in-engine scene assembly, layout, set dressing, and world-building activities.
• Optimize environments for performance, memory usage, and scalability across designated platforms.
• Establish and uphold best practices for environment implementation, encompassing asset setup, material application, and scene organization.
• Work closely with technical artists and engineers to address pipeline and performance issues.
• Recognize risks associated with environment scope, performance, and production schedules, proposing early solutions.
• Contribute to the project's visual cohesion by maintaining and reinforcing the established artistic direction.
• Guide and mentor fellow artists through constructive feedback, knowledge sharing, and raising the overall quality standards.
• Act as a feature owner for the Environment art team.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environment art for games, with at least one published title.
• Demonstrated ability to manage environments from concept to final implementation within the engine.
• In-depth knowledge of real-time environment pipelines, including asset creation, materials, shaders, and scene assembly.
• Strong technical skills in working with modern game engines, including debugging, profiling, and optimization techniques.
• Experience in designing large-scale environments and vistas with effective composition and narrative quality.
• Proven track record of creating modular environments and scalable asset systems.
• Solid grasp of performance limitations and methods to optimize environments without compromising visual quality.
• Experience in designing and implementing complex material systems.
• Ability to balance artistic integrity with technical constraints and production realities.
• Excellent communication skills and capability to collaborate across various disciplines.
• Self-motivated and adept at taking ownership of major features or environmental areas.
