This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Assist in managing enterprise metadata across key data domains, applications, systems, reports, data products, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs).

• Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a definitive view of existing data, its locations, definitions, ownership, and usage.

• Oversee, support, and enhance the content of the data catalog and metadata management, which includes catalog records, metadata templates, ownership assignments, classifications, glossary links, lineage documentation, stewardship workflows, and catalog usability.

• Create effective procedures, playbooks, templates, intake forms, validation checklists, attestation routines, documentation controls, and operational procedures to ensure governance is repeatable.

• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to verify business metadata, technical metadata, ownership assignments, glossary terms, CDEs, and the completeness of lineage.

• Facilitate the onboarding of data sources into governance tools for scanning, metadata ingestion, catalog publication, and lineage capture.

• Develop and manage business glossary content, including terms, definitions, acronyms, synonyms, data-domain alignment, ownership, and relationships to governed data assets.

• Lead working sessions to address inconsistent terminology, conflicting definitions, unclear ownership, and documentation gaps.

• Record, validate, and maintain lineage for critical data flows, including source-to-target movement, transformations, downstream consumption, reporting dependencies, and business use.

• Support metadata quality controls by assessing completeness, consistency, timeliness, ownership, glossary alignment, lineage coverage, and catalog usability.

• Coordinate review workflows, document inconsistencies, escalate unresolved issues, and assist in establishing sustainable practices for metadata refresh.

• Promote federated stewardship by aiding Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians in understanding and fulfilling their metadata responsibilities.

• Prepare operational metrics and reports regarding catalog coverage, metadata completeness, glossary coverage, lineage coverage, steward validation, issue aging, adoption, and usage trends.

• Support governance forums, leadership updates, audit assistance, risk assessments, and program performance tracking with clear, stakeholder-ready materials.

• Work collaboratively across business, technology, analytics, architecture, risk, audit, security, and governance teams to foster alignment without direct authority.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, data management, information management, business analytics, library/information science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in metadata management, data cataloging, data governance, enterprise data management, data stewardship, business glossary management, lineage documentation, or similar work in complex environments.

• Strong comprehension of business metadata, technical metadata, operational metadata, data ownership, stewardship, data domains, CDEs, glossary terms, lineage, and catalog publication.

• Experience in developing procedures, process documentation, operational routines, templates, standards, controls, validation checklists, or governance playbooks.

• Ability to interpret data structures, schemas, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, reporting dependencies, and system documentation.

• Technical fluency in data architecture, data integration, ETL/ELT concepts, APIs, reporting environments, and metadata ingestion concepts.

• Strong facilitation, documentation, analytical, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, including the capability to translate technical data concepts into clear business language.

• Experience in producing metrics, KPIs, dashboards, scorecards, status reports, or operational performance reporting.
