Senior Engineer, Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• We are seeking an Engineer to assist in constructing and managing the infrastructure that supports Zencoder’s AI-driven products.

• In this role, you will collaborate across our production platform to enhance its reliability, security, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Your responsibilities will encompass our Kubernetes infrastructure, cloud systems, networking, data management, and the internal tools that empower engineers to deploy and operate services with confidence.

• This position is focused on hands-on engineering rather than a conventional operations role.

• You will engage in coding, automating infrastructure, troubleshooting production issues, and designing systems that simplify operations as the company expands.

• The specific challenges will change rapidly. You should be prepared to take charge of unfamiliar systems, pinpoint the most impactful improvements, and navigate between immediate production requirements and long-term platform developments.

⛳️ Requirements

• You possess strong software engineering expertise and consistently write production-level code.

• You have experience in building and managing infrastructure on GCP, AWS, or another leading cloud platform.

• You have practical experience with Kubernetes in a production environment.

• You are knowledgeable about cloud networking and security principles, including VPCs, IAM, load balancing, firewalls, WAFs, CDNs, DNS, and service identity.

• You have experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment processes.

• You are adept at troubleshooting issues across application, infrastructure, networking, and data system boundaries.

• You have managed distributed systems such as OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, or similar technologies at scale.

• Experience in deploying or operating large language models with serving frameworks like vLLM or SGLang is a bonus, though not mandatory.

• You prioritize reliability, security, developer experience, and cost — rather than just ensuring that infrastructure is operational.

• You seek methods to eliminate operational toil instead of accepting repetitive manual tasks.

• You take accountability for significant challenges and are comfortable collaborating across traditional team boundaries.
