Compiler Engineer, Infrastructure – New College Grad

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Reconcile and align downstream compiler codebases with open-source repositories, involving restructuring, refactoring, and the upstreaming of internal modifications as necessary.

• Lead initiatives to reorganize, merge, or phase out internal code to minimize divergence from upstream open-source projects.

• Design and develop infrastructure, tools, and developer workflows that enhance productivity, accuracy, and maintainability for internal compiler engineers.

• Create automation and developer tools to assist in rebasing, patch management, validation, and large-scale refactoring efforts.

• Investigate and implement AI-assisted tools to optimize developer workflows, focusing on code navigation, change analysis, refactoring support, testing, and review efficiency.

• Collaborate with compiler developers, architecture teams, and CI/test infrastructure teams to ensure changes are scalable across geographically dispersed organizations.

• Act as a technical liaison between internal compiler development and open-source ecosystems, contributing to the formulation of long-term alignment strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Recent graduate with a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Familiarity with open-source compiler frameworks.

• Strong practical C++ programming abilities.

• Experience with large-scale, long-term codebases, including efforts in refactoring and restructuring.

• Solid comprehension of compiler internals, encompassing IRs, passes, build systems, and toolchains.

• Knowledge of source-control-intensive workflows (e.g., downstream vs. upstream repositories, patch queues, rebasing techniques).

• Strong software engineering principles with a focus on creating robust, maintainable developer infrastructure.

• Effective communication and documentation skills; capability to collaborate across teams and time zones.
