This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Conduct both independent and collaborative research and development of data science and machine learning models; create innovative data science and machine learning models that deliver business value by utilizing internal and external data sources.
• You possess strong skills in, and are committed to enhancing your expertise in decision science, data communication, domain modeling, predictive modeling, advanced analytics, MLOps, research, and AI ethics, with a readiness to help others develop these competencies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams: work hand-in-hand with diverse teams to implement data science and machine learning models for business challenges, ensuring that these models are integrated into scalable products and services.
• Communicate results and impact: present findings and their significance to stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Engage in pioneering research in Physical AI, exploring the convergence of engineering models and AI.
• Mentor junior data scientists: guide junior data scientists, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
• Over 5 years of practical data science experience in water, wastewater, utilities, or smart infrastructure settings.
• Proven experience working with operational telemetry data (SCADA, AMI, IoT, sensor systems).
• Extensive knowledge in time-series modeling, anomaly detection, and forecasting for infrastructure systems.
• Experience in applying geospatial analytics and/or graph/network modeling within real-world systems.
• Established history of deploying ML solutions in production, including data pipelines, MLOps, and model monitoring.
• Capability to convert advanced analytics into practical insights for engineering and operations teams.
• Strong communication abilities and experience in public-sector or regulated settings.
• A Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field is required; a PhD is preferred.
