Senior Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor – Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Lead a significant, multi-phase data center construction initiative in the Greater Austin area.

• Act as a primary daily point of contact for stakeholders.

• Oversee costs, provide commercial guidance, and maintain financial controls throughout the project duration.

• Estimate and negotiate change orders during the construction process.

• Generate and present cost plans and estimates.

• Evaluate cost estimates created in collaboration with design teams and contractors.

• Reconcile variations and confirm the accuracy of contractor data.

• Collect status updates and prepare revisions to cost estimates.

• Draft written feedback and executive summaries on submissions from contractors.

• Coordinate cost data from contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects/engineers, and project stakeholders.

• Guide engineering priorities based on cost implications.

• Oversee cost assessments, valuations, cost impact evaluations, contingency management, and commitment tracking.

• Prepare funding presentations and facilitate value engineering discussions.

• Provide commercial insights for design options and value engineering.

• Assess pricing from contractors and subcontractors, leading client-side negotiations.

• Conduct quantity surveying, cost controlling, and change management.

• Supervise cost auditing, valuation, and validation processes.

• Generate monthly cost reports for clients.

• Negotiate and finalize accounts promptly.

• Compile records of built cost estimates and benchmark data.

• Mentor and develop talent.

• Manage commission margins, fee/resource forecasts, and financial reports using internal software.

• Execute internal business management systems, delivery methodologies, and tools.

• Comply with relevant SOX control responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related construction field.

• At least 5-7 years of pertinent cost management experience in the construction sector.

• RICS accreditation or progress towards it is preferred.

• Proven experience leading cost management initiatives on medium to large-scale, moderately to highly complex construction projects.

• Experience in construction consultancy is highly preferred.

• Background in supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, campus, mission-critical, manufacturing, or similarly complex construction projects is favored.

• Strong understanding of construction industry technical aspects, procurement methods, value management, and value engineering.

• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.

• Experience in fast-paced project environments with multiple stakeholders and concurrent construction activities is preferred.

• Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

• Ability to thrive in a client-facing role.

• Residing in the Greater Austin area and willing to travel occasionally to the project site.
