This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Address intricate regulatory compliance issues by performing thorough research and making well-informed decisions.
• Keep track of legislative and regulatory updates relevant to Cover Whale’s operations, communicate their implications to the organization, and devise solutions to minimize compliance risks.
• Create and refine compliance policies, protocols, and procedures for Cover Whale’s main business and new initiatives to uphold a robust regulatory compliance framework.
• Conduct regular compliance risk assessments to assess adherence to Company compliance policies and formulate strategies to address identified risks.
• Lead the preparation, certification, and timely distribution of Compliance reports to internal partners, ensuring data accuracy and effective issue tracking.
• Independently handle the preparation of precise and timely responses to insurance consumer complaints received from the State Department of Insurance, BBB, and directly from consumers, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations for consumer complaints and coverage disputes.
• Oversee corporate governance and Secretary of State responsibilities across all entities, including annual reports, maintenance of good standing, registered-agent management, and entity formations and name changes.
• Manage and supervise (i) insurance producer and entity licensing (both resident and non-resident), appointments, and licensing-related commission gatekeeping for Cover Whale, its carrier partners, and agents, and (ii) OFAC, AML, and other essential screening requirements.
• Ensure compliance with other mandatory reporting and filing obligations – including surplus line taxes, FMCSA, and other state and federal transportation-related submissions.
• Develop and deliver compliance training programs for employees to improve compliance awareness and proficiency.
• Prepare and provide detailed materials and information for internal and external regulatory audits, data calls, surveys, and investigations, and draft comprehensive responses.
• Continuously monitor and evaluate regulatory developments and best practices in the insurance and corporate governance fields to manage any changes; establish and maintain the Regulatory Change Management process.
• Collaborate with management to formulate and implement strategic compliance initiatives that align with organizational objectives. Ensure that corrective actions are effectively executed to validate the success of mitigation plans.
• Proactively integrate AI and other emerging technologies into daily workflows to enhance efficiency and innovation while maintaining sound judgment, data integrity, and compliance standards.
• 8 to 10 years of compliance experience in the property & casualty (P+C) insurance sector or insurance intermediary (preferably in both Admitted and Excess & Surplus lines).
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Legal degree is preferred).
• Experience in commercial auto insurance segments is preferred.
• Comprehensive understanding of the industry's standards and regulations.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Profound knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements in the P+C insurance domain (both admitted and surplus lines).
• Capability to analyze complex regulations and issues, exercise sound judgment, and devise solutions that balance compliance risks with business objectives.
• Strong organizational abilities and a proactive approach to compliance projects.
