
Senior Backend Engineer – Personalization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Design, develop, and deploy backend services that enhance LLM-based music fulfillment experiences, providing users with more adaptive control over their listening preferences.
• Create and sustain the APIs and distributed systems that facilitate prompted playlist experiences, session generation, and personalized music products.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including user research, design, data science, product management, and ML engineering, to develop new product features that connect artists and fans in impactful and personalized ways.
• Act as a technical leader and a valued contributor within a self-managed, cross-functional agile team.
• Prototype innovative approaches and implement scalable solutions for hundreds of millions of active users.
• Contribute to the Spotify-wide backend developer community, influencing and shaping architecture across the organization.
• Advocate for best practices in backend system design, testing, and deployment throughout the company.
• You are a seasoned backend engineer who thrives on solving intricate real-world challenges in a dynamic, collaborative setting.
• You have a track record of working directly with stakeholders to understand, document, and create APIs and systems that fulfill their needs, promoting greater adoption and minimizing reliance on custom, one-off solutions.
• You possess experience in writing distributed, high-volume services and are proficient in deploying and maintaining them in a production environment.
• You have a profound understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
• You are comfortable working with LLM-based systems and constructing the backend infrastructure that supports them.
• You have experience with large-scale distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Beam or Apache Spark.
• You have worked with cloud service providers such as GCP or AWS.
• You enjoy an environment where experimentation and rapid iteration are encouraged.
