Senior Backend Engineer, Onchain

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain onchain execution infrastructure. Design and manage the relayer systems, transaction pipelines, and settlement logic that drive Polymarket's markets from start to finish.

• Create high-performance backend systems. Construct dependable, scalable APIs and services that manage high transaction volumes and real-time data with minimal latency.

• Take ownership of RPC and chain connectivity. Implement and scale the endpoints and integrations that ensure Polymarket remains reliably connected to EVM networks.

• Enhance performance and reliability. Maximize throughput and efficiency across our onchain systems, ensuring smooth operation as transaction volumes increase.

• Improve security and fault tolerance. Apply industry best practices for secure, highly available distributed systems, particularly in challenging onchain environments.

• Contribute to code quality. Engage actively in code reviews and help uphold a high engineering standard within the team.

• Remain informed about the latest advancements. Monitor developments in EVM ecosystems and blockchain infrastructure, and integrate relevant innovations into Polymarket's stack.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend development.

• Strong foundational skills: clean, well-tested code; robust database design (PostgreSQL or equivalent); well-structured APIs.

• Comprehensive understanding of EVM networks: transaction lifecycle, gas mechanics, mempool dynamics, and smart contract interactions.

• Proficiency in systems-level programming languages: Golang is strongly preferred; Rust or C++ are also valued.

• Familiarity with blockchain infrastructure: RPC nodes, event indexing, relayer architectures, or comparable systems.

• Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguous, high-stakes technical challenges.

• (Plus) Direct experience in building or operating a relayer system.

• (Plus) Experience with Ethereum rollup technologies (Arbitrum Nova, Optimism, etc.).

• (Plus) Experience with BFT consensus engines, libp2p, or core node software.

• (Plus) Contributor to open source projects within the blockchain ecosystem.

• (Plus) Active participation in ethresear.ch or similar protocol research forums.
