Senior Backend Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage backend services and system integrations across essential business platforms, including Shopify, Skio (subscriptions), Fulfil.io (ERP), marketing tools, and financial/banking systems.

• Design, construct, and uphold reliable data ingestion methodologies utilizing APIs, webhooks, and batch workflows, ensuring robust error handling and observability.

• Write and maintain production-ready services primarily in Python, with Node/TypeScript used where applicable.

• Operationalize data products that facilitate analytics, forecasting, and data science initiatives.

• Enhance platform reliability across GCP, the data warehouse, and orchestration layers by implementing monitoring, alerting, logging, and cost-effective architectural decisions.

• Convert established cross-functional requirements into robust technical systems.

• Work in collaboration with the Data team to refine dbt models and analytics workflows when improvements in backend systems lead to enhanced data outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5-7+ years of experience in backend engineering, data engineering, or platform engineering.

• Strong expertise in Python and SQL, with TypeScript/Node as a plus.

• Experience in building and managing production APIs and backend services, including REST and/or GraphQL.

• Proficient in designing and maintaining data ingestion workflows utilizing APIs, webhooks, and batch processes.

• Practical experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow / Composer (or similar).

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably GCP.

• A strong reliability mindset with a track record of building stable, scalable, and well-monitored systems.

• Preferred: Familiarity with dbt and its role in enhancing analytics workflows when necessary.

• Preferred: Knowledge of data quality best practices, including tests, reconciliation, idempotency, and schema evolution.

• Preferred: Understanding of privacy and compliance considerations related to data pipelines, particularly GDPR/CCPA principles.
