Senior Backend Engineer – Application Core Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• The Application Core Services (AppCore) team is part of the Platform organization within the Foundations department.

• Our group is responsible for developing the fundamental systems that power Grafana's business operations.

• Design, construct, and manage reconciliation systems, including the SSS backend, to monitor the desired state of the stack.

• Work collaboratively across SSS, grafana.com, and deployment configurations to ensure the reliability of stack lifecycle workflows.

• Oversee rollout processes for provisioned plugins, dashboards, data sources, Grafana versions, and stack-level configurations.

• Assist with the rollout of new regions and clusters, including the operational procedures necessary for safely bringing stacks online.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of experience working fully remotely.

• Experience with a large SaaS platform and familiarity with common distributed systems challenges (e.g., scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, HA, etc.).

• Professional experience with Golang and a willingness to engage with both backend services and application code.

• A strong commitment to developer and user experience, as well as the quality of the products you develop.

• Some experience in delivering projects, from gathering requirements and brainstorming ideas to shipping a product to the customer independently.

• Ability to write clean, robust, and well-tested software that other engineers can understand, operate, and maintain.

• Capable of tackling complex challenges and breaking them down to create tight learning loops: analyzing, designing, and building modular solutions, delivering MVPs, gathering data and feedback, and iterating on progress.

• Willingness to collaborate across teams, ensuring your work aligns with the needs of other squads and external stakeholders. You maintain transparency in your planning, involve stakeholders, and are receptive to feedback and suggestions.

• Strong experience with Kubernetes in AWS, GCP, or Azure, alongside familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet, etc.).

• Experience in participating in blameless incident response and crafting high-quality post-incident reviews.
