Senior Automation Test Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with the QA Automation Architect to develop, maintain, and enhance scalable and reusable test automation frameworks for both UI and API layers.

• Create and sustain automated test scripts for UI workflows and API endpoints, ensuring they meet functional, regression, and performance testing needs across the platform.

• Guarantee that automation solutions are seamlessly integrated with CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous testing and prompt feedback loops.

• Contribute to best practices in automation, coding standards, and shared tools to support QA engineers across various squads.

• Identify deficiencies in test coverage and proactively address them through enhanced automation strategies.

• Review and validate tickets from the Platform squad, testing and verifying platform-level modifications as part of the comprehensive QA workflow.

• Utilize AI tools and agent-based frameworks (e.g., Claude or similar LLMs) to expedite test generation, maintenance, and the expansion of coverage.

• Develop and refine agent skills and prompting strategies that promote reliable and repeatable AI-assisted test authoring.

• Partner with the QA Automation Architect to incorporate AI-assisted methodologies into the overall automation workflow in a sustainable and scalable manner.

• Stay updated on emerging AI tools applicable to software testing and advocate for their adoption when they provide measurable advantages.

• Assist in designing and executing performance and load testing initiatives to validate application behavior under realistic and peak conditions.

• Utilize tools such as JMeter, k6, or similar to construct performance test suites and analyze the results.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and communicate findings effectively to engineering and product stakeholders.

• Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, and the QA Automation Architect to ensure that automation efforts are aligned with feature development and application requirements.

• Analyze test execution results and provide clear reporting on defects, coverage, and the health of automation.

• Share expertise and offer guidance to QA engineers in developing automation skills across squads.

• Promote continuous improvement in testing processes, tools, and infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a software development engineering in test, QA automation, or a similar engineering role.

• Proficient programming skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Java, along with familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git).

• Experience in both UI automation (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress) and API automation (e.g., Postman, REST Assured, or similar), including knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, and related content formats.

• Proven experience integrating automated tests with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.

• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in leveraging AI tools and LLM-based agents to assist with test creation and automation workflows.

• Familiarity with performance and load testing concepts and tools (e.g., JMeter, k6, Locust, or similar).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to identify root causes and devise effective solutions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
