This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina, +1 more state.
• Act as the senior HSSE advisor for renewable energy facilities and construction projects across the region.
• Spearhead the implementation, governance, and ongoing enhancement of the HSSE Management System.
• Formulate regional HSSE improvement strategies that are in alignment with corporate goals.
• Convert regulatory mandates into actionable operational standards.
• Oversee HSSE audits, compliance checks, operational assessments, and evaluations of the management system.
• Examine safety metrics, audit results, near misses, and incident patterns to detect systemic risks.
• Create and assess corrective and preventive action programs.
• Carry out enterprise-level operational risk evaluations for maintenance, capital projects, and the integration of new assets.
• Lead inquiries into serious injuries, high-potential incidents, environmental issues, regulatory concerns, and substantial property damage.
• Facilitate root cause analyses and ensure the execution of corrective measures.
• Develop and uphold HSSE standards, procedures, guidance documents, and best practices.
• Offer technical advice to Operations, Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Development teams.
• Coach HSSE Specialists and mentor operational leaders, supervisors, and project teams.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives related to safety culture, operational excellence, and contractor performance.
• Foster relationships with regulatory bodies, consultants, contractors, and industry organizations.
• Represent TerraForm during regulatory inspections, client audits, and external HSSE evaluations.
• Identify improvements in HSSE processes, technologies, and best practices.
• Create business cases for safety initiatives, technologies, and capital investments.
• Assess the effectiveness of HSSE initiatives and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of progressive HSSE experience in renewable energy, utilities, construction, or heavy industrial operations.
• Proven experience in leading regional HSSE programs.
• Background in conducting complex incident investigations.
• Experience in implementing risk management and continuous improvement strategies.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Strong understanding of environmental compliance standards.
• Robust knowledge of HSSE management systems.
• Ability to influence leaders across functions, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively throughout the organization.
• Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time.
• Capability to work in active construction and operational facility environments.
• Must be able to wear necessary PPE and conduct field inspections in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the assigned territory.
