This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Design, develop, and deploy AI functionalities within the SimpliAI suite.
• Create agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, structured extraction, and intelligence for forms and workflows.
• Construct high-quality datasets, implement calibrated LLM-as-judge scoring, and perform regression evaluations.
• Integrate evaluations into the observability ecosystem.
• Take ownership of the quality, safety, latency, and cost associated with deployed systems.
• Execute model routing tailored to workloads and oversee unit economics.
• Operate in accordance with compliance requirements utilizing self-hosted observability, GovCloud inference paths, Amazon Bedrock, and rigorous data retention practices.
• Produce detailed design documents, articulate assumptions, and highlight uncertainties through the Plan-and-Review cycle.
• Develop reusable patterns, conduct reviews, and create shared components to elevate the AI engineering standards of the team.
• Engage in an AI-driven product lifecycle that includes autonomous agents for planning, coding, validation, and release while ensuring human oversight in judgment and direction.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience with responsibility for production systems.
• At least 2 years of experience delivering LLM- or ML-based features to actual users.
• Proven ability to evaluate system performance with a disciplined approach.
• Hands-on experience with agentic patterns, RAG, tool utilization and function calling, structured outputs, prompt engineering, and context engineering.
• Strong foundational knowledge in backend engineering, including APIs, data pipelines, and observability.
• An engineering-first approach to problem-solving.
• Capacity to make well-reasoned design choices amidst uncertainty.
• Proficiency in articulating the details of deployed systems.
• Experience managing systems through production challenges and failures.
• Familiarity with cost and safety, including understanding unit economics and failure modes.
• Experience in government, healthcare, or other regulated sectors is advantageous.
