Senior AI Product Builder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +33 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the entire product lifecycle from start to finish: AI-enhanced discovery → story/spec → prototype → production PR → outcome measurement. You are responsible for the results, not just the handover.

• Manage ShipBob's MCP server and merchant-facing chat functionalities comprehensively. Define the agent interface, implement integrations, and assess adoption rates.

• Conduct customer discovery independently; leverage AI tools to consolidate research from tickets, interviews, behavioral data, and competitive indicators.

• Exhibit extensive functional and technical understanding of the products you oversee. Provide demonstrations to merchants and partners personally; comprehend the competitive landscape and key differentiators.

• Utilize AI tools to assess product metrics, recognize usage trends, and identify anomalies. Set success metrics and kill thresholds at the specification stage without requiring guidance.

• Keep a prioritized roadmap ranked by impact and speed. Use AI tools to distill competitive intelligence, market trends, and customer insights into strategic directives.

• Assess whether a suggested solution aligns with ShipBob’s architecture without needing translation from Engineering. Grasp service boundaries, data structures, and how merchant and partner API utilization influences data contracts.

• Route changes through a prototype-then-PR process. Write clear story/specs and review AI-generated code prior to submission. Consistently improve PR promotion rates.

• Establish experiment hypotheses with defined kill thresholds. Make day-7 rollout/kill decisions based on AI-derived data.

• Engage in architecture reviews alongside Engineering as the product authority — the individual responsible for making the build-vs-buy-vs-defer decisions for the group.

• Additional duties and responsibilities as required.

• Your first 90 days:

• Days 1–30 — Map the domain. Familiarize yourself with ShipBob's operating and commercial modes, explore the ODM codebase, focus on the purpose and value of the domain, and conduct stakeholder discussions to determine the top three active priorities. Present a throwaway prototype back to the pod.

• Days 30–60 — Ship your initial PR. A small and safe change is acceptable. The goal is to demonstrate the loop, not the magnitude of the modification.

• Days 60–90 — Make a definitive decision. Define and instrument the metric for one substantial bet, with the kill threshold established at the specification stage. Make at least one rollout-or-kill decision based on the data, in front of the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in product management, product engineering, or similar roles, with proven hands-on usage of AI tools in a professional environment.

• Proven ability to write story/specs that can be directly acted upon by AI tools — including state machines, business rules, data contracts, and edge cases — rather than narrative PRDs.

• Technical proficiency: capable of reading data models, evaluating API contracts, and recognizing when AI-generated code diverges from the intended architecture.

• A history of delivering functional prototypes or production code, not merely Figma designs or slide presentations.

• Strong ownership of outcomes: sets success metrics and kill thresholds during the specification phase and monitors them post-launch.

• Experience in supply chain, fulfillment, logistics, transportation, or e-commerce technology.

• Comfortable working in a fail-fast culture, where quick mistakes are valued — taking too long to appear correct is viewed as a failure.

• Exceptional written communication skills: you craft specs, not meeting notes.
